I met a Senior Executive many, many years ago who shared with me that every morning he placed three pennies in his left pocket. During the workday, he tried to remember to tell at least three of his employees something positive. When he shared a positive, encouraging remark or compliment, he moved a penny to his right pocket. He was deliberate about thanking and encouraging his employees. Unfortunately, there were some days when the pennies remained in his left pocket, but he never stopped trying. I have shared this best practice many times during management training programs. Sharing positive messages and encouraging your employees is very powerful.
